Current Population Reports P-26 Series
These reports provide population estimates for counties and metropolitan areas, using consistent methodology for these localities in every State. Also included, beginning in 1984, are population and per capita income estimates for local government jurisdictions. Previously such estimates were provided in the P-25 series.
1969 to January 1984, the P-26 series was entitled Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates. In February 1984, series title changed to Local Population Estimates.

estimates for July 1, 1976 for counties and metropolitan areas, prepared under the auspices of
the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Local Population Estimates. The objective of this
program is the annual development and publication of estimates of the population of counties
using uniform procedures standardized for data input and methodology. The estimates shown in
the reports were prepared jointly by the Bureau of the Census and State agencies participating
in the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Local Population Estimates.

The estimates are prepared jointly by State agencies and the Bureau of the Census through the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Local Population Estimates. Geography: Consolidated metropolitan statistical areas (CMSA's), primary metropolitan statistical areas (PMSA's), metropolitan statistical areas (MSA's), and counties or county equivalents. Time Span: April 1, 1980; July 1, 1981; and July 1, 1982.
