Current Population Reports P-20 Series
A series of regularly published reports providing data from the Current Population Surveys conducted by the Bureau of the Census on social and economic characteristics of the population.
Data are presented for the population as a whole and for ethnic groups on fertility, mobility, residence, education, income, marital status, family status, and household numbers and composition. Reports are also published at varying intervals on metropolitan growth, fertility, voter participation in elections, and other topics. - School Enrollment:
- A series of reports providing statistics on school enrollment as of
October each year except as otherwise noted. Contents vary through the
life of this series. Previous reports have reflected the effects of social
change; e.g., enrollemtn of veterans, nursery and kindergarten growth, age
of enrollees in elementary and high schools, dropouts, marital status and
living arrangements of college students, effects of family status and
income, educational status of young adults and of their fathers, race, and
residence factors, including residence in poverty-nonpoverty areas.
Reports since 1967 provide data for various age groups of the population on
enrollment status by: age; race; sex; level of education;
metropolitan-nonmetropolitan residence; residence in poverty and
nonpoverty areas and in standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSA's) of
250,000 or more; special schools; level of education of family head, and
some limited attainment data for other family members; family income; and
modal grade of enrollment, ages 3-21. Detailed statistics are also given on
fall school enrollment by: whether attending full day; level and control
of school; and for selected age groups on: college enrollment; marital
status by enrollment status, age, and sex; and primary
families by enrollment status of family members and family income.
- Educational Attainment:
- A series of reports providing statistics on the educational attainment of persons in the
United States. Figures are as of March of each year except as otherwise noted. Recent
reports provide data on years of school completed for persons 14 years old and over, by age,
race, and sex; for person 25 years old and over, by type of residence, region, age, race, and
sex; regions of residence in March as compared with March of the previous year of migrants 25 to
64 years old; employed persons, by mobility status, and broad occupational group; employed
persons 25 to 65 years old, by major occupation group, age, and sex; and employed males,
25 to 64 years old, by income in (year), broad occupation group, age, and race.
Projections of educational attainment 1960-1980 are included in this category of reports, along
with related reports on the characteristics of persons with varying levels of educational
attainment.
- Characteristics of Persons, Families, and Households:
- Reports providing statistics of varying detail for the United States with occasional data for
regions and SMSA's dealing with the number and composition of households and with the
marital and family status of persons. Reports on household and family characteristics have
included data on age; race; sex; type and size of family; number, presence, and age of children;
marital status; residence (farm/nonfarm; metropolitan/nonmetropolitan, SMSA's, regions);
years of school completed; employment and occupation group of head; veterans' status; and
mobility. These data cover families, subfamilies, husband-wife families, families with
female head, unrelated individuals, and households.
Reports on marital and family status provide data on age, race, sex, family status, marital
status of family and subfamily heads, first marriages, age differences between husband and
wife, household and family relationships, presence of parents, income, and labor force status.
- Fertility:
- Reports providing statistics of varying detail for the United States on number of
children ever born to women by age, race, marital status, labor force status and education, and
by age, race, marital status, labor force, and veteran status of husband; also by family
income and residence.
- Mobility Status of Population:
- Reports presenting data for the United States with some detail for regions and selected
areas on the mobility status of the civilian population. Included are data on type of
migration, reason for moves, with detail on ages; sex; race; residence; marital, family,
and labor force status; income, and education.
- General Characteristics -- Residence, Voting, Other:
- Series of reports presenting data on types of residence for the civilian population; voter characteristics and activity; labor union membership, and other miscellaneous studies.
