Selected works of Lillian Feldman Schwartz, a much heralded early innovator in computer graphics, films, computer controlled and constructed sculptures, programs and designs, will be displayed on the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University. This exhibition of work selected from the larger Lillian Schwartz Collection will open November 1 at The Ohio State University Faculty Club, 181 South Oval Drive, Columbus. The show will continue to be on display at the club through December 14, 2007. In this first Ohio State University exhibition of the work of Lillian Feldman Schwartz, the visitor will be able to see examples of her early, pre-computer works, paintings and collages, as well as early, later and current works created with the use of the computer. The highly recognized poster that was commissioned for the Museum of Modern Art, NY (MOMA), will be featured. Prints based on her award winning animations and never before displayed works will also be exhibited. Ms. Schwartz, who received an Emmy Award in 1984 for a public service announcement for MOMA, has also received numerous awards for her work in film and for her computer graphics, programs and design. She received an honorary degree, the Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa, from Kean College, New Jersey. She is also a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science. The Ohio State University Rare Books and Mansucript Library is the repository the Schwartz Collection, which is comprised of computer-generated graphics, etchings, paintings, films, videos, photographs, and sculptures, as well as the artit's books, records, journals and correspondence with notables including Nobel Prize winners. Of special interest also are examples of Schwartz's use of the computer as a tool for art analysis, for instance, her work in researching the true sitter for Leonardo's Mona Lisa. In conjunction with the exhibit the Wexner Center for the Arts will be screening a selection of Schwartz's short films in the evening on Tuesday, November 13th.
