Hatch Show Print Workshop April 2007

On April 19th and 20th, the OSU Libraries’ Center for Book Arts hosted Jim Sherraden from Hatch Show Print in Nashville, TN, who ran all day non-stop relief printing workshops sponsored by the Columbus Society for Communicating Arts.  A Kansas native, and a Nashville resident since 1977, Sherraden joined forces with Hatch in 1984. He helped to revive the Hatch Show Print letterpress shop by concentrating on its poster production and by revitalizing creative methods of letterpress printing. Jim Sherraden has been creating original artworks based on the Hatch Show Print shop archives since 1992. Hatch posters and Sherraden’s original works revisit the colorful world of dancing girls, music and politics, and re-examine the impact of show print images on American culture. He is a co-author of Hatch Show Print: The History of a Great American Poster Shop (Chronicle Books, 2001). Hatch is owned and operated by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and annually produces posters and assorted printed matter for over 600 clients, including musicians, record labels and cultural arts organizations. At Hatch, the wide variety of creations is unique, resulting in individually handcrafted posters and original printed matter that has established Hatch Show Print as a downtown Nashville landmark.
