Position: Head, Music/Dance Library

Responsibilities: As Head, Music/Dance Library, one of ten departmental libraries that, with the Thompson (Main) Library comprise University Libraries, this position reports to the Assistant Director for Public Services and supervises the Assistant Music Librarian, 4 FTE staff, and 2 FTE student assistants. The Head, Music/Dance Library is responsible for overall management of the library, development and implementation of services, and overseeing of the development and maintenance of the library's collections. Provides leadership and direction for the library and is responsible for service programs, including collection development in support of research, instruction and curricular programs of the University; reference; library instruction; circulation; reserves; resource sharing; an in-house cataloging unit, primarily for scores and recordings; and audio-visual center. Maintains awareness of current developments and trends in information and media technology and implications for libraries. Participates in OhioLINK projects and other cooperative collection development, resource sharing and other services as appropriate. Serves as liaison with faculty in the School of Music and the Department of Dance and represents those constituencies within University Libraries. Consults with University Libraries Technical Services personnel in acquisition activities and ensures that in-house cataloging conforms to standard policies and practices. May participate in other user education activities as part of the Libraries' instructional programs.

Qualifications: Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent. Minimum of three years relevant professional experience including collection development or reference. Evidence of strong commitment to public service. Academic background in music, musicology, or dance. Extensive knowledge of music and dance information sources. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Preferred: Supervisory experience. Academic research library experience. Advanced degree in relevant discipline. Familiarity with interdisciplinary developments in the visual and performing arts. Working knowledge of German, French, or Italian.

Salary and Rank: $40,000 minimum. Faculty rank and salary dependent upon experience and qualifications. This position has faculty status with accompanying University expectations and requirements for tenure and promotions, which include research, publication and service.

Benefits: 22 days vacation, 15 days sick leave, 10 holidays. Hospitalization, major medical, surgical-medical, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurance; life insurance at 2 ½ times one's annual salary. State and alternative retirement system available.
