A variety of instructional services are described below.
I. Course-Related InstructionLibrary and classroom faculty work cooperatively to develop instruction that will enable students to use information resources efficiently for course assignments. A presentation by a librarian is one option for faculty. To arrange a presentation for your class, please contact the subject specialist for your discipline.
II. Online Learning ResourcesMake the Leap Online Assignment[Tour and request this assignment]Request a library research skills assignment for your Survey 100 class. This research skills assignment uses library online resources to give your students a hands-on experience with core tools and teach them basic academic research skills. Engineering and Health Sciences versions are used for survey courses in those related disciplines. Student work is automatically scored and grades (40 points) are sent to you electronically. An introductory presentation by a librarian may also be requested.
Learning Objects for Courses:We work with subject specialists and faculty to develop online learning resources targeted to specific course needs. The English 110 First Year Writing Program is one example.
On Demand Learning Objects:The Libraries also provides a variety of online tools to help, on demand, with the research process.
Libraries Credit Courses:Several online credit courses are offered by the Libraries, to help students learn and practice effective research skills.
Orientation:Our online game, Head Hunt, helps new Ohio State students learn more about the Libraries and the resources and services available to them.
III. Grants and AwardsFor Faculty:Librarians are especially interested in working with faculty to develop online resources that support the learning objectives of your course. Course Enhancement Grants are available on a regular schedule to support this activity.
For Students:We also recognize outstanding students and faculty through the Libraries annual Undergraduate Research Prize competition.
