2. How to Study Brazil
Focus: Research requires being able both to conveniently identify and routinely
use print and electronic resources. These consist of:
periodical indexes, regarding where and when information has been
published; abstracts, the digesting of
publications; library catalogs, whereby materials are
located in a library; full-text retrieval, the electronic reading of digitized
publications; gateways, web sites that maintain links to sites on a common
subject; and bibliographies, listings (annotated or un-annotated) of
publications by topical focus. Obtaining expertise in the identity and use of
databases includes hands-on computer practice and progressive exercises in the
application of searching strategies. The recommended style manuals for research
papers are Chicago (14th or 15th ed.), Turabian, or MLA.
Note: This symbol " ¦ »" appearing below refers to a database contracted
