1. Register with the Knowledge Bank
- Go to: https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/index.jsp.
- Click on "My Knowledge Bank" in the left-hand column.
- Click on "New user? Click here to register".
- On the registration screen that displays, type in your OSU email address and click on [Register].
2. Check your email and set your password for the Knowledge Bank
- Retrieve messages from your OSU email address.
- You will receive an email from the Knowledge Bank that contains a link to a Web page in the Knowledge Bank that allows you to set your password.
- Click on that link and set your password.
Note: The email you receive is generated by the system and not a person so if you have questions, please email us at libkbhelp@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu.
3. Check to see if you can log into "My Knowledge Bank"
- Go back to : https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/index.jsp
- Click on "My Knowledge Bank".
- Type in your email address and password. A screen should display that reads "My Knowledge Bank: <Your name>".
- You will also see a message at top of the left-hand column: "Logged in as name.n@osu.edu", for example.
- Click on "Logout" to log out.
4. Notify Knowledge Bank about Your Registration
Fill out the Web form below and click on [Submit] to inform the Knowledge Bank staff that you have successfully registered. They will authorize you to submit your work to the appropriate Hayes collection within 2 to 3 business days. You can tell if you have been authorized by clicking on "Start a new submision" after logging into "My Knowledge Bank". After you are authorized, the "Collection" field on the "Submit: Choose collection" screen will display your Hayes Research Forum. Before you are authorized this field will be blank.
5. Convert your paper to pdf format
A quick tutorial for converting Microsoft Word documents to PDF format is available at: http://library.osu.edu/sites/sel/ETD/QuickConvertWordPDF.
Note: Please do not use spaces or special characters in your PDF filename. Spaces and special characters — such as [ , ] , ( , ) , ! , é , and ü — can prevent access to your submission via the web once it is in the Knowledge Bank. Examples of properly named PDFs include: hayes.pdf, your_name_hayes.pdf, hayes_paper.pdf, HayesPaper.pdf, myHayesPaper_2008.pdf. Also, please remember that the filename of your PDF will be visible to the general public.
6. Submit your paper to the Knowledge Bank
- Click on "My Knowledge Bank".
- Click on "Start a new submission".
- Follow the submission guidelines for details on how fill out the online submission form.
Note: During the submission process, you will be asked whether or not you are requesting an embargo (or delayed dissemination) for your paper and, if so, for how long.
Note: As a repository for digital assets, OSU's Knowledge Bank acts as a permanent archive. All items submitted remain as is at the time of submission, just as books once published remain in the form in which they were printed. PDF files once placed in the Knowledge Bank will not be modified.

7. Follow-up to Your Submission
When your submission has been approved, you will receive an e-mail with a permanent Web address for your work. If you have requested an embargo, you will receive an e-mail when your paper is added to the Knowledge Bank after the embargo period. Items in the Knowledge Bank are indexed by Google, but it will take up to two weeks before you will be able to find it in Google.
