FAQ'S : THE ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS IN THE JOURNALISM LIBRARY

Where do I find older copies of The Lantern?

The Main Library Microforms Collection has positive microfilm copies of the paper beginning with its first edition in 1884. They do not circulate. (The Main microforms collection is now housed in the Ackerman Library. They will return to Main Library after the renovation is complete.) These papers may be read and/or copied in the libraries that have film readers: Ackerman Library, the Journalism Library or the Sullivant Library. Please check the catalog as some volumes are in the depository. You request specific films be sent just as you would books using the "request this item" button in the catalog. Paper copies of the most recent newspapers are kept in the Journalism Library until they appear in microfilm at the end of each school year. These too do not circulate. You may also find paper copies of the Lantern online at http://thelantern.com/ beginning with 1996. There is no written index to the newspaper however you may inquire at our circulation desk for further information on finding materials.

How can I find reviews of the most recently released feature films?

The Journalism Library offers both print and online sources to help you locate both scholarly and popular film reviews. However our print resources, including some of our most useful often appear a year or more after the film's debut. This is also true of most of the scholarly criticism. Your best source for very current reviews can be found in a few very fine resources, all of which are cited with direct links on the Journalism Library web page. These include LEXIS/NEXIS ACADEMIC and NEWSPAPER SOURCE. The MRQE MOVIE REVIEW QUERY ENGINE and THE INTERNET MOVIE DATABASE (IMBd) are also very useful. The first two of these are databases while the last two are sites to which the Journalism Library provides a direct link.
