OLinks Troubleshooting
When searching reference databases there are many reasons why
an OLinks link to full text may or may not appear and other reasons why a link
might fail. The OLinks option appears in many reference databases,
including those running on
these search engines: Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, EBSCO, ISI, MathSciNet,
NISC, OCLC , OSearch (OhioLINK databases), ProQuest (some databases),
PubMed.
Notify
Penny (292-6247) if OLinks is not offered
in a database interface and she will contact the vendor.
OLinks priority order
OLinks checks and displays full text
in priority order from EJC, OSU's OLinks file, Wilson, EBSCO.
Penny sends OhioLINK a monthly
updated file of OSU e-journal subscriptions that work with OLinks.
Journals must have an ISSN to be included in the list.
No full text link on OLinks page
Try the following:
-
Check the
list of OSU e-journals included in OLinks.
-
On the OLinks page follow the
link to the OSU catalog, display the OSCAR bib record
for the e-journal and test the link to the resource.
-
Some diacritics can cause OLinks
to fail. OhioLINK may be able to fix these. Notify
Penny (292-6247).
-
Report any e-journal titles you believe should have a full
text a link on the OLinks page to Penny
(292-6247). Provide the database title and the complete article citation.
OLinks full text link does not work
Try the following:
-
Try another citation from the same e-journal to see if it
works. This might confirm if that e-journal site is temporarily unavailable
or if the problem is with the specific article.
-
Search the
OSU Library catalog
for the e-journal title.
-
Link to EJC
full text results in an error
message that the ISSN is not available. This happens if that
specific article has not been added to the EJC or if there is an ISSN
mismatch between the database citation and the EJC. If in doubt connect
directly to the
EJC
and view the list of volumes and issues available for that e-journal.
Check the OL serials check-in module, which is linked from each EJC journal
page.
Wilson Full Text
Wilson sends OhioLINK full
text articles included in Art Abstracts and Education Abstracts and these appear as
[Attached Full Text] in the OSearch interface. Wilson also sends OhioLINK
a file about full text available on the Wilson server. These files contain errors and following the
Find It! link to the Wilson server may retrieve no citations or citations with
no full text. For an example see
OLinks to Wilson Full Text.
Off-campus users and OLinks
If off-campus users sign-in via our
EZProxy links to e-resources work only if the
resource URL is in the EZProxy configuration file. If a link
fails, the off-campus user will be prompted by the publisher's site to enter a
username/password. Notify
Penny
(292-6247) so she can add these to the EZProxy configuation file. The EZP
configuration file is updated monthly to capture recently added e-resources.
Notify
Penny
(292-6247) of any links that fail via EZP so she can ppdate the EZP
configuration file.
