PHONE TREE MESSAGE ALERTS: CODE BLUE!
Use this document when the IT staff initiates a phone tree.
We will let you know which alert you should pass along.
Please post this document where all staff can see it so they
will know which services are available and which are not.
#1. OSCAR to go Down
· The OSCAR server (Felix) needs to be rebooted; log out of
OSCAR until further notice.
· OSU’s holdings can be searched via the OhioLINK central catalog,
but requests or renewals are not possible.
· Other software, i.e. Eudora, Netscape, Word, and WordPerfect,
can be used.
· Another phone tree message will be sent when access is restored.
#2. OSCAR Trouble
· Nancy Helmick and/or Laura Tull are working on the problem.
· Innovative has been called and is working on the problem.
· Watch the OSCAR Main Menu page and your email for updates.
· Other software, i.e. Eudora, Netscape, Word, and WordPerfect,
can be used.
#3. Thurber problem (IT staff will not call HEA)
· Thurber server to be rebooted [phone tree message will provide
date/time ].
· Main Library staff should log out of Novell account prior
to that time.
· Staff in Main Library will have no access to their Novell
account, Eudora, WordPerfect or NetTerm (used for telnet to OSCAR).
· Staff in department libraries will have no access to WordPerfect
or NetTerm (used for telnet to OSCAR).
They will have access to Netscape, MS Office, Eudora and documents
in the Novell account, all of which are on the individual PC’s.
· Circ desks outside of Main Library with multiple PC’s will
have at least ONE PC available (at least one account set to login to Orton).
#4. Orton problem (IT staff will not call HEA) (TS calls ARV
only)
· Orton server to be rebooted [phone tree message will provide
date/time].
· Department library staff should log out of their Novell account.
· Staff in department libraries will have no access to their
Novell account, Eudora, WordPerfect or NetTerm (used for telnet to
OSCAR).
· Staff in Main Library will not be affected.
· Circ desks outside Main Library with multiple PC’s will have
at least ONE PC available (at least one account set to login to Thurber).
#5. Dewey problem (IT staff will not call HEA)
· Public server to be rebooted [phone tree message will provide
date/time].
· There will be no access at public workstations.
· Another phone tree message will be sent when access is restored.
#6. Libraries’ Web server (Apollo)
· We have to reboot the Libraries’ web server.
· There will be no access to Libraries’ web pages, Gateway or
ERL databases. Can connect to OhioLINK at www.ohiolink.edu or OSCAR
at http://library.ohio-state.edu/search
· Public workstations will have no access to telnet OSCAR, but
can connect to OhioLINK and OSCAR (see above).
· Staff workstations will have access to telnet OSCAR but not
Web OSCAR.
#7. WebSPIRS server (Athena)
· Libraries’ server that provides the ERL databases (WebSPIRS)
to be rebooted [phone tree message will provide date/time].
(If more than 24 hours before reboot message will be sent via
e-mail and not phone tree.)
· There will be no access to these databases temporarily.
· All other services will remain available.
· An email message will be sent when the server is available
again.
