Can students work when not enrolled in classes?
Yes, a student may have one quarter off a year from attending school and maintain their job. The student may choose any quarter.
What is the policy on student raises?
Longevity increases - A student employee is eligible, and will receive a $0.20 longevity increase, after 3 consecutive quarters and at the beginning or the fourth quarter of service.
If a minimum wage adjustment is made during the same quarter as the longevity increase, then the student employee will get the longevity increase and the minimum wage adjustment. If the minimum stays the same, then the student employee only gets the longevity increase.
Minimum wage adjustment - If either the State Legislators or the Libraries increase the minimum wage, the student employee will be brought to the new minimum. If the student
employee is due for a longevity increase at the same time (in the same quarter as the adjustment),
then the student employee will also get the longevity increase. If the student employee is not
eligible for the longevity increase in that same quarter, the student employee will only get the
minimum wage adjustment.
A longevity increase is not made on top of a minimum wage adjustment uless the student is
due for the longevity increase on the cycle of three consecutive quarters beginning the fourth
quarter. It may appear that the student employee "lost" the longevity increase with a new minimum
wage adjustment. In no circumstance is the longevity increase carried over and added to a
minimum wage adjustment. Longevity increases are given on cycle of eligibility.
Can a GAA, GRA, or GTA become a student library employee?
No. It is against university policy for an employee to receive both monthly and bi-weekly pay
checks. The only way a graduate student who holds a graduate appointment on campus
(GAA, GRA, or GTA) can acquire a job at the libraries is if they are appointed a GAA which
requires that the position exists in the libraries. Even then, the sum of the appointments can
not exceed 75% (30 hours a week).
Overtime must be approved by the supervisor and
Assistant Director and the Libraries HR Department notified of the overtime
before it is incurred.
