COURSE-RELATED INSTRUCTION

Faculty and TAs:  We are happy to deliver instructional sessions tailored to particular course-related needs. Whether you would like a one-time library overview or a more detailed library component for your course, a librarian can assist you.

Some of the services we offer:

  • demonstrations of online finding aids
  • hands-on practice by your students
  • lecture  and seminar presentations
  • one-on-one assistance
  • locally developed user guides, handouts, and Web pages (consider inserting something in your coursepaks or Carmen courses!)
  • incorporating online resources (journal article, e-books, videos) into your Carmen courses
Some of the topics we can cover:
  • helping practicing teachers integrate information literacy competencies into their teaching
  • using the ERIC and PsycINFO online thesauri effectively
  • finding hard to locate materials, such as conference papers and proceedings
  • finding quantitative or qualitative research-based journal articles
  • planning a search strategy
  • evaluating print and online information (from a professional/scholarly or from a K-12 perspective)
  • broadening your search beyond the usual databases
  • using Dissertation Abstracts and other dissertation resources effectively
  • what to do when you "can't find anything"
  • searching the free Web, such as Google Scholar, efficiently and effectively
Note that library sessions are most effective when they relate to a specific course assignment and when the instructor is present for the session.

If you would like to arrange a session for your Education students, please call Gerry Greenberg at 292-1254 or Deidra Herring.

Note: Sport and Exercise Science faculty should contact Gerry Greenberg at 292-1254 (greenberg.3@osu.edu).
