Plans for Expansion

In 1997 the Ohio Board of Regents recommended that $1,800,000 be appropriated during FY 1999-2000 for Ohio State's Phase II module. Construction on the Phase II module began in June 2001 and was completed in February 2002. At the time construction began on Phase II, the Phase I module was near capacity and contained over 1.2 million volumes and 12,260 cubic feet of archival material. Each phase of the facility is designed with a knock out panel on the east wall of the storage module so that additional 9,000 square foot modules can easily be added onto the building. As each additional module is added, the panel is replaced with an overhead door through which the order picker can be driven. While any number of additional modules can be added to such a facility in this manner, land constraints at Ohio State's facility will limit expansion to three additional modules.
