Closed Reserve Room Services

What is the Closed Reserve Collection?

The Sullivant Library Closed Reserve Collection supports primarily courses in the Humanities and the Social Sciences. During a quarter, Closed Reserve holdings may number 1,800 items covering more than 300 courses.

Permanent Reserves
A small collection of reference materials and University documents, including the University budget, are available for two-hour in-library-use. Reproducible Federal tax forms are also available for photocopying.

Class Closed Reserves
Class reserves can include books, photocopies and other items that have been gathered by instructors and reserve room staff to support class assignments. Please Note: Reserve materials should be only a small portion of the required readings for the course. (Copyright Guidelines)

Who May Place Materials on Reserve?

OSU faculty, staff and assistants who are teaching during the current or upcoming quarter may have readings placed in the Closed Reserve Room.

How Are Materials Placed on Reserve?

Sullivant Library Closed Reserve book and article list forms are available at the Sullivant Library Closed Reserve Room. They can be picked up or you may call 292-2075 and request that they be mailed to you.

On-line forms are also available at the following URL: http://library.osu.edu/sites/circulation/eres/

Upon receipt of your book and/or article lists, the Circulation Staff will process your requests within 72 hours. There is no limit on the number of items you may place on Reserve. However, please submit your lists at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the quarter in which the items will be needed to ensure that materials can be processed and made available by the beginning of the quarter. Staff will need time to locate library items, recall items on loan and, if possible, purchase books not owned by OSU Libraries.

Photocopies to be placed on reserve for class use must be provided by instructors, who are responsible for copyright compliance.

What Materials May be Placed on Reserve?

Photocopies, books and journals (including personal copies of such materials) may be placed on reserve.
