Thesis Location and Academic Department Codes
This list is used to determine the OSUL location as well as the "degree code" used in devising the
thesis call number. Given the profusion of name changes among degree-granting departments, it
is OSUL's policy to retain a degree code even when the name of the academic unit changes; thus,
the degree code ZOO is used for Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology. There appear to
be some historic inconsistencies in this practice, but the general policy is one of retention, so that
like materials continue to be shelved together. Proposed changes in location, negotiated between
libraries.
[] indicates the last year a particular degree code has been used for a department that may have
been deactivated, merged into another unit, or is not listed in the current Graduate School
Handbook.
