ARTIFACTS COLLECTION SUBGROUP: JEWELRY CATEGORY

SCOPE & CONTENT

The Jewelry Category consists of ten artifacts arranged into the sub-categories of Military, NASA, and Senate. The lone military item is an undated tie tack containing the emblem of the U.S. Marine Corps. The NASA sub-category includes hand-crafted and commercially manufactured items produced to commemorate John Glenn’s Friendship 7 space flight in 1962, and a “Traveler’s Prayer” key chain sent to Glenn by schoolchildren prior to his return to space in 1998 as a crew member of the Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-95.  The four Senate items consist of a United Nations tie tack, two Ohio shaped tie tacks, and a pocket watch presented to Glenn in 1998 by school children in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

A listing of the artifacts in the Jewelry Category is available through the Descriptive Listing link below. To view photographs of the jewelry click on the Photo Gallery link.
