MINUTES


  1. Annual Report
    1. A new Draft of the Annual Report will be emailed on 12-09-05 for TAC member review.
      1. Biggest impact on Libraries will be Main Library’s move to Ackerman
        1. Impact on New Student Orientations (NSO).
        2. We will assist with technical issues as needed.
      2. Please give Barb feedback by Friday, 09 December 2005, at 3:00PM.
    2. Annual Report DUE before faculty meeting on Tuesday, 13 December 2005, and Barb will give a synopsis at this meeting.

  2. Meeting with Kathy Dean about PLT --- Barb
    1. It is felt that her students do not need to attend NSO as they are more advanced.
    2. TAC to discuss using some of Kathy Dean’s training techniques in NSO at our January meeting.
      1. Carmen may be used.
      2. Carmen would solve the problem of where to have NSO once Main Lib. moves.

  3. Winter Qtr. NSO --- Brian
    1. Sessions scheduled for the following dates:
      1. Thursday, 12 January 2006, 5:30 PM-7:30 PM
      2. Friday, 20 January 2006, 2:30 PM-4:30 PM
      3. Friday, 27 January 2006, 2:30 PM-4:30 PM
    2. Procurement card procedures for refreshments
      1. Per Diane Sleimers --- a copy of the email, by Linda Gonzalez, stating authorization to buy refreshments must be had by member purchasing these supplies.
      2. Said letter is to be included with receipt and attached to the expense form.

  4. Training
    1. Millennium Create Lists (Brian) - sessions scheduled in January for regional campuses.
    2. PC Essentials (Lisa) - to be scheduled in January.
    3. Eudora 6.2/7 (Lisa) - not sure if this will be scheduled.
    4. Oracle Calendar: update(Lisa) - to be scheduled in January.

  5. New Student Orientation - Suggested Changes
    1. Ask students a question about their High School Library.
      1. Ask students to raise their hands (or have as question in evaluation form) if they had online library catalog in High School.
      2. Ask students to raise their hands (or have as question in evaluation form) if they had card catalog in High School.
    2. Get rid of the “internet” question as everyone now surfs.
    3. Replace O.S.C.A.R. with “Library Catalog.”
    4. PUSH Library Catalog NOT Google (Google Scholar okay).
    5. Possibly have live demonstrations of the web regarding our databases.
    6. Get the “Vision Statement” in the University Libraries “Guide to Resources and Services.”
    7. Get the “Service Values” in a better place (or in two places) and as a handout.

  6. Meetings/Training locations as a result of renovation
    1. Switch NSO to Carmen (?).
    2. Move NSO to SEL (?).

  7. Storage of materials during renovation
    1. SEL was discussed
    2. Other possibilities
      1. Ask Staff Advisory where they are having events --- they will likely have storage at that place.
      2. Ask Administration where they are having meetings.
  8. News Notes

    5. Risk Management (Linda/Chris) - Not in attendance of TAC meeting
    6. Tech Services (Lisa) - New version of Connection software before 1-01-06; training set for Wednesday, 14 December 2005.
  10. Other
    1. Training we should be scheduling/doing? (See OIT security antispam below).
    2. Observations/suggestions from Farrell (See NSO question about High School Library).
    3. Wes Boomgaarden - tutorial on digital imaging - brown bag
      1. We should attend.
      2. To be repeated in future?
      3. We can advertise this for Wes.
    4. OIT security training for not-IT staff workshop (Susan Logan request)
      1. We agree with Susan that TAC should sponsor Chuck Morrow-Jones offer to give an OIT security for non-IT staff workshop---possibly mandatory.
      2. The OIT security antispam software is not part of Eudora.
        1. Lisa will email us the URL on “how to.”
        2. Could we ask our IT people to talk with OIT about giving this workshop?
    5. Other??? ---Contact list for software & projects Lisa suggested a subcommittee for this.

  11. Next Meeting Next meeting is Wednesday, 25 January 2005, 1:30-3:00, rm. 124. (Due to conflict with Create Lists Meeting on our usual date/time).
