The four cubic feet of briefing books date from 1981 to 1996 and contain information on domestic and foreign policy issues compiled for Senator Glenn's use by his legislative staff.  The frequency of the books varies greatly from year to year.  The sub-series contains books on a weekly basis from February to November 1982, but has only one book for the years 1983, 1988 and 1993.  Other years contain anywhere from two to nine books.  Briefing books contain summary memoranda and talking points written by Glenn's legislative staff on pending legislative bills and issues, press matters, possible legislative initiatives, and National Democratic Party concerns.  Background materials and newspaper clippings may supplement some staff memoranda.  Some books also include Senator Glenn's notes and annotations.  Most books contain a table of contents divided into the two major headings of domestic policy and foreign policy.  Other briefing books within the sub-series pertain to a specific policy topic or legislative bill.  Books within the sub-series are arranged chronologically.

Researchers should note that other briefing books are located within the Legislative Staff Sub-series and the JHG's Office Files Sub-series.
