Dating from 1999 to 2008, the eight cubic feet of Post-Senate Records are sorted into the four categories of correspondence, subject files, newspaper clippings and schedules.

The bulk of the chronologically arranged correspondence files contain in-coming letters to Senator Glenn of a general nature covering a variety of topics not located within the subject files.  The files also contain a scattering of out-going correspondence.

The alphabetically arranged subject files document Senator Glenn's activities in the years following his retirement from the U.S. Senate.  Many of the records pertain to events Glenn attended honoring him for his lifetime achievements in public service, such as the ceremony held in September 1999 naming the John H. Glenn Research Center at NASA's Lewis Field in Cleveland.  Other files document his work to establish the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Pubic Policy at The Ohio State University.  Included in these records are some materials concerning the merger in July 2006 of the John Glenn Institute with the School of Public Policy and Management at Ohio State to form the John Glenn School of Public Affairs.  Notable within the series are files pertaining to Glenn's participation on a number of commissions or organizations since his retirement from the U.S. Senate.   Included are materials Glenn compiled while serving in 1999 and 2000 as co-chairman, with former Senator Robert Dole, of the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching.  Also included are records from the National Commission on Service Learning dating from 2002 to 2003, records dating from 2002 to 2005 from Glenn's membership on the NASA Advisory Council, and records from the International Longevity Center dating from 1998 to 2008.  Commission or organization files generally include correspondence, memoranda, meeting agendas and minutes, reports, and background materials.

The files of newspaper clippings date from 1999 to 2008.  Most of the newspaper articles within the files document John Glenn's activities with the John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.

The schedule files contain calendars, both monthly and daily, dating from 1999 to 2006.  The files document the activities that Senator Glenn, and to a lesser extent, Annie Glenn, participated in during this time period.  Arranged chronologically, the files contain invitations accepted by Senator and Mrs. Glenn and may include other related materials such as correspondence, itineraries, and programs.  Further information on many of the events listed within the schedule files may be located by name in the subject files.
