Browse the Portraits collection
The Prints Series consists of 204 oversized or framed items dating from the 1950s to 2005. Contained within the series are posters and signed limited edition prints covering various aspects of John Glenn's careers in the military, NASA, and politics. The military prints generally consist of drawings of the aircraft Glenn flew in World War II, in the Korean War, and as a test pilot in the 1950s. Many of the NASA posters and prints date from either the Project Mercury era of the late 1950s and early 1960s or from Glenn's return to space on the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998. The series also contains numerous prints with a general space theme as well as prints and posters commemorating specific NASA missions, programs, and anniversaries. Most of the posters and prints pertaining to Glenn's years in the U.S. Senate reflect his activities and special legislative interests, such as Ohio economic development, aging issues, and the environment. Also included are prints presented to Glenn as an award or commendation for his work in a particular public policy area.
The series also contains some items pertaining to Glenn's corporate career and post-senate activities, along with a few items pertaining to Annie Glenn. Non-framed items within the series are sorted first by size for conservation purposes, and then arranged in rough chronological order by sub-series. A listing on the item level of the prints and posters within the series is located in the collection box and folder inventory.
