Export Citations from ISI Databases to RefWorks


On the Results list:

  1. Mark the Records you want to export
  2. Scroll Down to the Bottom of the Screen

In the Grey Output Records Box, Step 3

  1. Pull-down the Save to Other Reference Software Menu, and Highlight Save to Plain Text
  2. Click on Save

The Processing Records Window Opens

  1. Click Save to download the records

The File Download Window Opens

  1. Click the Save button

The SaveAs Window Opens

  1. Note the name of the file. You may change this file name if you want to, however, you must include the .txt extension.
  2. Note the location you are saving the file to
  3. Click Save

Import References Into RefWorks

Connect to the OSU Libraries RefWorks. Then Enter your OSU Username and Password. The RefWorks Login Page will appear:
  1. Enter your RefWorks Log-in Name and Password.
  2. Click Login.

Pull-down the References Menu and Select Import.

On the Import Form:

  1. Pull-down the Import Filter/Data Source menu and select ISI (Institute for Scientific Information).
  2. Pull-down the Database menu and select Web of Science.
  3. Click Browse and locate your saved downloaded records.

The Choose File Window Opens

  1. Highlight the savedrecs.txt file
  2. Click Open

On the Import Form:

  1. Confirm that savedrecs.txt displays in the Import Data from the Following Text File field
  2. Click Import

Click View Last Imported Folder.

On the Last Imported Folder Page:

  1. Check boxes beside citations.
  2. Pull-down Put In Folder menu and select folder.

Click the Help link in the RefWorks toolbar for information about searching and sorting your citations or about creating and organizing your folders.
