Geologic Field Trip Guidebooks

Guidebooks for geology field trips are great resources for local information.  They are also often difficult to locate in the library catalog.  Many are publshed by societies or state geological surveys  as a series and do not have title by title listing in the catalog.  Sometimes they are included as part of  meeting proceedings or in a issue of a journal. The Geologic Guidebooks of North America database listed below is a good place to start to search for a published guidebook.  It will tell you which organization published the guidebook.  You can use this information to then search the OSU Libraries catalog to locate the guidebook.

Some guidebooks can be located by searching the OSU Libraries catalog by the subject geology guidebooks.

In the GeoRef database the term guidebook is a subject heading that can be used to find guidebooks.  Search your geographic area and combine with a subject search for guidebook.

Societies are beginning to make their guidebooks available online.  A partial list available below.
