Lending to Non-OSU Libraries
Email: liblend@osu.edu Phone: 614-292-6211
The OSU Libraries' Interlibrary Services Office supplies loans and photocopies of materials to libraries and other agencies. Individuals should contact the academic or corporate library with which they are affiliated or their nearest public library to make a request.
Request Methods Accepted By OSU
Libraries may submit requests via OCLC to our symbol OSU. Non-OCLC libraries can register with us and make direct requests via ILLiad by logging in on this page. We do not accept requests via email or telephone.
Libraries not using OCLC that wish to register in our ILLiad system may email us at liblend@osu.edu to obtain a username and password. Please include a contact person's name, email address, shipping/billing address, and Odyssey address (if applicable). We will provide your username and a temporary password for you to change when you first log in.

Loans and Photocopies
Loans of Books, Microforms, and Multimedia
The loan period is 35 days from the date an item is shipped. A renewal of 4 weeks may be possible for books and microforms, but we do not renew media items: CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes. For multi-piece loans (e.g., several volumes of a series), the limit is three items per request.
Photocopies of Journal Articles and Proceedings Papers
Photocopies are provided for articles up to 50 scans in length. We prefer to deliver articles electronically via Odyssey. Borrowing libraries using the FREE Odyssey software can send and receive electronic documents with OCLC ILLiad sites as well as other Odyssey sites. V isit Atlas Systems, Inc. to obtain the Odyssey software.
OSU Dissertations and Master's Theses
Ohio State University Libraries is committed to making OSU dissertations and master's theses available to scholars. These works may be obtained by the following methods:
OhioLINK ETD Center
OSU dissertations produced from 2002 to present and many master's theses may already be freely available on the Internet at the OhioLINK Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Center. They are findable in WorldCat, our catalog, and via Google. Although all are now submitted digitally, some authors may choose to embargo, or withhold, them for a limited period of time.
Electronic Delivery
Paper OSU master's theses and pre-2002 dissertations not found in the OhioLINK ETD Center can be scanned and delivered as a free PDF. To request that a title be digitized, ILL offices may submit a loan request through OCLC with a Borrowing Note requesting a free PDF. Any individual may also email libsel@osu.edu directly to make a digitization request. When requesting a thesis or pre-2002 dissertation via email, please include the following information:
- Author
- Title
- Call Number (see our catalog)
After scanning the material, we will email you a link to the PDF on our local server. PDFs will be stored on the server for 15 days.
Titles only available on microfiche must be requested as an interlibrary loan since they cannot be digitized at this time.
Loan
Dissertations and theses are also available for a traditional loan if a circulating paper or microfiche copy is available. Our normal lending fees apply.
Purchase from UMI.com
Post-1954 OSU dissertations (except ones where the author prohibited their sale) may be purchased from University Microfilms, Inc. by calling 1-800-521-3042 or by visiting the UMI Web Site.
