Email: osuill@osu.edu Phone: 614-292-9077
Interlibrary Services subsidizes the scholarly research of eligible OSU faculty, staff, and students by borrowing materials not available through the OSU or OhioLINK catalogs. Items wanted for personal interest or entertainment purposes should be requested through OhioLINK/SearchOhio or the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
Making a Request
First time users click here, or if already registered, log on to ILLiad (the Interlibrary Services system) on this page. Click on the Loan or Thesis link under "New Requests" and fill out a request form. Please provide a complete, accurate citation. Provide an ISBN or OCLC number whenever possible.
OR
Order materials directly from the WorldCat database using the
button. You may also order directly from WorldCat Local and Multi Search databases by using the Send to OSU ILL link. These databases will bring you to our site, where you will find a request form already filled out for you.
When you have completed providing your request information and chosen your delivery location, click the "Submit Request" button. Please fill out a separate request form for each item that you want.
Delivery and Timeframe
OSU Columbus Campus Patrons
Materials can be picked up at the Thompson, FAES, or BPL library circulation desks. We will notify you via email when an item has arrived. When picking up materials, you may be asked to present a valid OSU ID. Eligible patrons may authorize another person to pick up materials.
Columbus campus faculty, staff and graduate students may request that items be mailed to their Columbus campus office. Please review your personal information in your ILLiad account to ensure that you have provided a current and complete campus address. Office delivery usually takes 3-4 business days via Campus Mail. Patrons are responsible for materials from the time they are checked out and put into Campus Mail until the time the material is checked in at the Thompson, FAES, BPL or SEL Library circulation desks or our office. We encourage you to return material in person to receive a receipt.
OSU Regional Campus Patrons (Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Newark)
Materials may be picked up at the Columbus campus Thompson, FAES, or BPL Library circulation desks or at your designated Regional Campus Library. You will be notified via email by either the Interlibrary Services Office or your regional campus library when the item is ready for pickup. You must present a valid OSU ID when picking up material. Faculty may authorize another person to pick up materials for them. Materials may be returned to the Columbus campus Thompson, FAES, BPL or SEL Library circulation desks or to your designated Regional Campus Library.
Loan period
Due dates and restrictions on the use of the material are determined by the lending library. Requests for loan renewals may be made through ILLiad anytime in the 7 days prior to the due date. The lending library is asked for an additional 2 week loan and must approve the renewal request. Allow 2-4 business days for us to receive their response. The renewal date may be longer or shorter than our requested 2 weeks, and patrons should check their ILLiad accounts to verify renewal dates. You will also receive an answer to your renewal request from our office by email.
Replacement charges
If an item borrowed through interlibrary loan is not returned within 3 weeks after the due date, a replacement charge will be added to one's patron record. Fines, charges, and other fees of $75 or more automatically result in a suspension of library borrowing privileges (sanctions) and a block placed on your University records, including registration, grades, transcripts, and receipt of financial aid.
Limits on Loan Requests
Please be as judicious as possible in submitting requests (10 or fewer per week). In order to provide free and timely service to all our patrons, loan requests must not be:
- textbooks (Please ask your instructor to place a copy on reserve)
- reference books (including computer manuals, study guides, and genealogical books)
- personal interest/entertainment materials (Please visit your local public library)
Some materials may not be available through Interlibrary Services:
- recent journal volumes (last 10-20 years)
- audiovisual material, including videos, are lent by only a limited number of libraries
- material which are fragile, oversized, brittle, or held in other libraries' Special Collections (rare book rooms)
- just-published books or other material in high demand (Ask your librarian to consider buying it for the collection)
- manuscripts
