Journal articles from OSU and non-OSU collections

Interlibrary Services provides electronic delivery of journal articles and proceedings papers to eligible OSU faculty, staff, and students through a service called  . The online request form can be used to obtain articles from both OSU and non-OSU collections.

Making a Request

First time user registration. If already registered, log on to ILLiad (the Interlibrary Services system) on this page. Click the Article Express link, and fill out the online request form. Provide a complete, accurate citation without abbreviations. Provide an OCLC or ISSN number whenever possible.

Request articles directly from our research databases using the OLinks button. A new browser window will open, and you can use the 'Get a copy via Interlibrary Loan' link to log on to ILLiad where our request form will already be filled out for you. Before submitting your request, check our Online Journals List for immediate full text availability where thousands of titles not located using OLinks are found.

When you have completed providing your request information, click the "Submit Request" button. Please fill out a separate request form for each article that you want. Do not submit several items on one request.

Delivery and Timeframe

Requests from the OSU Collections are usually filled within 3 business days; however, copies obtained from non-OSU collections may take longer. Users will receive an email message with a URL to ILLiad where they can log into their account and view or print the article. Users can access their articles on our server from any computer with internet access, a browser, and Adobe Acrobat reader.

Rarely, we will need to mail articles to the primary address in a patron's ILLiad account. Please keep your address up-to-date by logging into ILLiad and selecting the "Change User Information" link.

Limits on Requests

Please be as judicious as possible in submitting requests.

To provide FREE and timely service to all patrons, Article Express requests must be:

• not already available online (Go to our Online Journal List to see if what you want is already available electronically.)
• 10 requests or fewer per person per week
• not a course reserve reading at an OSU library (Please use material at that location.)
• not in a THO Special Collection, Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, or University Archives (Contact the location directly for service.)
• limited to one article per journal issue and be 40 pages or fewer (Due to Federal Copyright Law, we are unable to provide multiple articles from the same work for a user, even if made on separate requests.)

Our office may refuse to accept a request if, in our judgment, fulfillment of the request would involve a violation of Copyright law (Title 17, United States Code).

National copyright guidelines limit our office to obtaining only 5 articles per year from each journal not in the OSU Libraries collections. After the fifth article, a copyright fee (as much as $95) must be paid to the journal publisher. Our office will subsidize up to $60 in copyright fees per patron each year. If your requests will involve any co-payment of copyright fees, we will contact you prior to obtaining the articles.
