Copyright/Fair Use Information

The eReserves request form is required for copyright management. All materials will be cleared for copyright permission prior to placement in eReserves. Incomplete or incorrect citations may result in your request being delayed or denied.

The eReserves Office follows current copyright laws by relying on the educational Fair Use provision of the copyright law.


Examples of materials that instructors may submit:

Instructor owned materials:

  • syllabi
  • class assignments
  • class notes
  • problem sets
  • sample tests

Supplementary reading materials:

  • excerpts from books (entire books cannot be placed on E-reserve - whether out-of-print or not)
  • an article from a periodical or newspaper
  • a short story, short essay or short poem
  • a chart, graph, diagram, drawing, cartoon or picture from a book, periodical, or newspaper
  • a link to a Web page (please provide URL, we can link to any stable URL)
