Closed Reserves
What is the Closed Reserves Collection?
The Ohio State Library Closed Reserve Collection supports all academic departments through the Thompson Library, and departmental libraries such as the Science and Engineering Library, Architecture Library and Geology Library, amongst others.
Permanent Reserves
Some materials are kept on reserve on a semi-permanent basis. Such materials can include the GEC Textbook Project, certain reference materials and university documents such as the Staff and Faculty salary books.
Class Closed Reserves
Class reserves can include books and films to be of use on a quarter by quarter basis for the student population of the campus.
Who May Place Materials on Reserve?
OSU faculty, staff and assistants who are teaching during the current or upcoming quarter may have materials placed in a library closed reserve department.
How Are Materials Placed on Reserve?
Ohio State Library Closed Reserve forms are available at the library location you would like your materials to be made available. They can be picked up or you may call 292-OSUL and request that they be mailed to you.
On-line forms are also available at the following Reserves Form
Upon receipt of your book and/or article lists, the Circulation Staff will begin to process your requests within 72 hours. There is no limit on the number of items you may place on Reserve. However, please submit your lists at least three weeks prior to the beginning of the quarter in which the items will be needed to ensure that materials can be processed and made available by the beginning of the quarter. Staff will need time to locate library items, recall items on loan and, if possible, purchase books not owned by OSU Libraries.
What Materials May be Placed on Reserve?
Books, journals, reference materials, DVDs and VHS tapes (including personal copies of such materials) may be placed on reserve.
What Materials May Not be Placed on Reserve?
Photocopied materials, burned DVDs and other similar materials may not be placed on reserve to prevent any possible breaches of copyright. For any photocopied text, instructors can contact the eReserves department at OSU, which can pay copyright costs and make scanned materials available through Carmen. For films, OIT can make arrangements to have the materials available for streaming on-line.
