Library Services for Alumni and Ohio Veterinarians: Articles
Open Access Journals
A number of journal publishers make their articles freely available on the internet to anyone. A list of open access journals in veterinary medicine can be found here.
Print Journals
As Ohio residents, veterinarians practicing in Ohio are eligible for a library card from the State Library of Ohio, which is part of the OhioLINK consortium along with OSU and 87 other Ohio colleges and universities. State Library cardholders can borrow circulating journals and other materials found in the OhioLINK catalog, including those held by OSU, and pick them up at the OhioLINK member library most convenient to them.
VetMed Resource
VetMed Resource is an internet resource created for practicing veterinarians. It serves as a comprehensive information resource containing all of CABI's veterinary information, providing excellent support for veterinary continuing education. As a pilot project, alumni of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine from the classes of 2009-2011 will have free access until May 2012 to VetMed Resource. Members of the class of 2012 will have access for the year following graduation.
Alumni from the classes of 2011 or later should contact Jessica Page for a username and password.
Loansome Doc
The Veterinary Medicine Library will discontinue its no-cost document delivery service through Loansome Doc on May 31, 2012. Beginning in June 2012, users should instead use the OSU Health Sciences Library's Document Delivery service.
Alumni of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and veterinarians practicing in the state of Ohio can now identify The OSU Veterinary Medicine Library as their lending library in Loansome Doc, a program sponsored by the National Library of Medicine. Loansome Doc allows PubMed users to directly order full-text copies of articles found in PubMed from a medical library. The OSU Veterinary Medicine Library will provide pdf copies of up to 10 articles per week at no charge.
To sign up for a Loansome Doc account go to https://docline.gov/loansome/login.cfm. Search for The Ohio State University Veterinary Medicine Library by region, or type in the Library's identifier: OHUJYK.
Please be as judicious as possible when submitting requests.
To enable the OSU Veterinary Medicine Library to continue to provide FREE and timely service to all program participants, please:
- Submit no more than 10 article requests per week.
- Search the OSU Libraries catalog to check the location of journal title. Articles must be published in a journal shelved in the OSU Veterinary Medicine Library or available electronically in the OSU Veterinary Medicine Library.
- Limit requests to one article per journal issue. Articles must be fewer than 40 pages in length.
- Keep track of the cost the OSU Libraries are incurring for your requests. Individuals will be limited to $500 in copyright fees per fiscal year (July-June).
The OSU Veterinary Medicine Library may refuse to accept a request if, in our judgment, fulfillment of the request would involve a violation of Copyright law (Title 17, United States Code).
