RIdIM at Ohio State
The OSU Music/Dance Library is home to the central Editorial Office for the database of the Répertoire International d'Iconographie Musicale (RIdIM), an international project with the objective of developing methods, means and research centers for the classification, cataloging, and study of iconographical material relating to music. Library staff involved in the project include librarians Alan Green (Project Coordinator) and Sean Ferguson (Editor-in-Chief) and cataloger Margaret (Gretchen) Atkinson. In addition, numerous School of Music students have contributed their time and skills to entering records and editing data. The activities of the Editorial Office are:
* Providing editorial oversight of the RIdIM database, in consultation with the RIdIM Commission Mixte, including quality control and maintenance of controlled lists of names, places and terms
* Entering records in the RIdIM database, using data from catalog cards compiled by RIdIM researchers in the 1970s and 80s, updated with newly verified information whenever possible
* Communicating with RIdIM catalogers in various countries to provide training, guidance and general support
* Creating and revising documentation to support RIdIM cataloging
* Providing testing and feedback for the ongoing database development process
