Most microformat materials are housed in the OSU Main Library's Microforms Reading Room. This collection includes microfiche, microfiche, and microopaques (cards), as well as data CD-ROMs and DVDs, and print indexes and user guides.

Microforms

Over one million items covering topics in History, Religion, Women's Studies, Black Studies, Area Studies (East European, Mid Eastern, Asian), Anthropology, Communications, English, Sociology, the United Nations, U.S., and Foreign Governments, and more. For specific titles, their format, location, and call numbers, please search the library catalog. To search for major collections held only in MIC, check the Microforms Finder.

CD-ROM/DVD

The collection consists primarily of titles produced by government agencies and international governmental organizations. Most items are available for check-out but have a short loan period. Selected titles are non-circulating. Non-circulating titles include Geolytics Census CD-ROMs/DVDs and Microanalyst IPUMs CD-ROMs. For specific titles, their locations, and call numbers, please search the library catalog.

Equipment

The following equipment is available at the Thompson Library:

  • 4 microformat scanner/printers. Scan to digital formats or print. Patron must supply own flash (USB) disk, zip disk or writable DVD.
  • 2 microopaque scanner/printers. Scan to digital formats or print. Software to run selected non-circulating items has been installed on these workstations.

Assistance

Assistance in locating and using microform materials is provided at the Microforms Reference Desk or in room 211. The desk is located adjacent to the microforms collection.
