HAITI 1947-1948

The Paul-Henri Bourguignon Haiti Photo Collection webpage has been added to the Rare Books & MSS webpage. It includes a broad sampling of the extensive collection of photos taken by artist Paul-Henri Bourguignon and Erika Bourguignon, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at OSU. The photos, accompanied by commentary from Prof. Bourguignon, are an invaluable resource for the study of Haitian history, society, culture, economy, ecology, and other matters. Take a look at http://library.osu.edu/sites/rarebooks/bourguignon/index-bourguignon.html

Avant Symposium 2010

Plans are underway for a second Avant Symposium to be hosted by the Rare Books & MSS Library and its Avant Writing Collection. The first event was held in the summer of 2002, and was quite successful; people are still talking about it. The second symposium will be held August 19-21, 2010. Also planned is a concurrent exhibit at the Columbus College of Art and Design of visual poetry and experimental literary works from the Ruth and Marvin Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry in Miami. Mark your calendars!

Toyo Suyemoto Collection at the OSU Libraries

We’d like to draw your attention to the recent publication of  I Call to Remembrance: Toyo Suyemoto’s Years of Internment, edited by Susan Richardson.  Richardson drew upon Suyemoto’s own writings, their years of friendship, and the Toyo Suyemoto Collection, which is housed in the OSU Rare Books and Manuscripts Library, in preparing this book.  We congratulate her on the completion of this project!
