The Web Visioning Committee is working to enhance the Libraries’ presence on the Internet through three simultaneous projects—the creation of a new web site to replace the Libraries’ existing site; the development of a “staff intranet” that will offer Libraries’ faculty and staff easier access to the information, forms and history currently linked to the “staff web page,” and the addition of a content management system.
Critical to both the Libraries’ internet and staff intranet projects is the addition of a “content management system (CMS),” a system used to manage the content of a web site. A CMS allows the content author to manage the creation, modification, and removal of content from a Web site without needing the expertise of a webmaster.
Each component has its own project plan with separate timelines. The Intranet’s tentative completion date is autumn 2008 and the CMS/Internet site redesign component has a tentative completion date of July 2009.
