Logan Elm Press Receives 2009 Silver Award

The Ohio State University Libraries’ Logan Elm Press was presented the 2009 Silver Award for Print Excellence for the book “Sparrows Fly Sideways,” by Columbus’ Ivan Gilbert, M.D. The award was given by the Printing Industries Association serving Northern Kentucky and Ohio.
“Sparrows Fly Sideways” is a selection of 30 poems which highlight Gilbert’s need to speak directly to the reader with gusto and disarming frankness. These poems express his passionate desire to describe with striking candor a
realistically sharpened view of mortality and a readiness to puncture pretensions—even his own—with refreshingly satirical jibes. Limited to 250 numbered and signed copies, “Sparrows Fly Sideways” was designed by Peter Chan and was hand printed and bound by Donald Perone. Each copy is slipcased and accompanied by an audio CD of the poems read by the author.
