Hidden Animals in Art: Bunny Edition
July 7th, 2008
HAiA:BE is back after a brief hiatus. Hope you enjoyed the Fourth!
The bunny in Giovanni Bellini’s St Francis in Ecstasy really is a hidden animal in art. He’s tucked under the saint’s sleeve and is just poking his head out from his rocky home. This reminds me of a favorite book that my mom used to read to me called, appropriately enough, Home for a Bunny, which included the lines: “Home for a bunny/Home of his own/Under a rock, or a log, or a stone/Where can a bunny find a home?” Obviously it was one of little Giovanni’s favorites, too.
