Yeah, yeah, everybody knows Comfest is this weekend. But there’s other stuff too.
First though, something you may not know about Comfest….Two former FIN student employees will be playing this weekend! Friday at 9:30pm Eve Warnock’s group Queen Mae and the Bells (above left) will be doing one of their way-out performance pieces. Check out Andrew Graham’s group RTFO Bandwagon (above right) Saturday at Noon on the Offramp Stage. I see Michelle Shocked is playing at 6:15 Saturday on the Bozo Stage. At one time I actually owned the cassette single for her song “On the Other Side.”
The amount of activities taking place in celebration of Pride ‘08 are many, and I think Columbus’ GLBT community is great at welcoming the general public to these events. Besides the parade down High St. at 1pm that evening, the most popular event of the weekend will probably be the Jennifer Holliday concert at 5:45pm in Bicentennial Park. I’m pretty sure she’ll be singing at everyone that she’s not goin’ and you’re gonna love her.
Friday night at 7:30pm Chris Rock will be bringing his comedy stylings to the Palace Theatre. Behind the theater after the show = best opportunity for getting pictures and/or autographs. The stage door is also right there at the parking garage - convenient!
You sank my Battleship!
The Origins Game Fair is taking place at the Convention Center this weekend. I wish I knew somebody who had been to this because I’m very curious about it. Next year I shall enter the Battleship tournament. I also see at least 3 games on the schedule that are art-related. Good times! Opening June 29th at Easton, a new snack shop! Emilee’s Italian Ice will be opening with Emilee herself giving out cupcakes and balloons from 11-5. FREE CUPCAKES, PEOPLE! Oh yeah, and there’s an art fair there all weekend. But FREE CUPCAKES…..
