Shoe of the Week
May 13th, 2008
I don’t know if words can adequately express the adoration I feel for Malick Sidibe’s photographs, such as Before the Party (Twist), included here. He’s often mentioned with Seydou Keita - whose photos I also love - as some of the first African photographers to garner an international reputation (probably because they both took studio portraits and are from Mali). Sidibe was just awarded the Golden Lion at last year’s Venice Biennale, the first African man to be so honored.
