Shoe of the Week
October 22nd, 2007
I’ve quite suddenly got into Moroni portraits, brought on by the impulse purchase of a book about 16th-century paintings in the National Gallery. I loved his portrait of a tailor in London, but no shoes, alas. The silhouette of the legs of the gentleman here make such a strong graphic statement (not that kind of graphic, silly!), almost like a shorthand for the lower half of a body. N’est-ce pas?
