Volunteers Needed for Welcome Week

The annual Student Involvement Fair, in conjunction with Welcome Week activities, is Monday, September 22. The Libraries will join with hundreds of other university groups and organizations orienting students to services and activities available to them. The Fair is on the Oval, from 12-4 p.m. We are looking for 4-6 volunteers (two or three for a shift from noon to 2 p.m.; another two or three for the 2-4 p.m. shift) to work at the Libraries table. No set up or tear down…just smile, hand out materials on library services and answer students’ questions. If you’d like to help, please email Larry Allen.

See Andy Warhol’s work like you’ve never seen it before.

“Other Voices, Other Rooms” sheds new light on the celebrated pop artist and focuses on the ideas at the heart of his work: embracing consumer culture, exploring sexual identity, challenging social conventions, and erasing distinctions between high and low culture.

The Wexner Center is proud to host the only U.S. presentation of this spectacular exhibition featuring films, videos, paintings, drawings, prints, wallpaper, installations, objects, seldom heard audio recordings, and extraordinary archival material. Other Voices, Other Rooms opens in Columbus just after what would have been the late artist’s 80th birthday (in August 2008).

Staff Appreciation Picnic

Good food and good company were in abundance at this year’s Staff Appreciation Picnic on August 21. Held at the Ackerman complex shelter house near the Ackerman Library, this year’s party was sponsored by the Friends of the OSU Libraries.

There was perfect weather for the annual event, which coincides with a number of events across campus designed to thank the university’s faculty and staff for their work throughout the year. Special thanks to the Staff Advisory Council for pulling this great event together.

Parking Permits

Current parking permits are valid through August 31; payroll deductions for the 2008-09 permits are effective September 1.

If you still haven’t gotten your permit for the coming academic year, check the Transportation and Parking web site for more information.

General Staff Meetings Sept. 9 & 10

General Staff Meetings, Tuesday, September 9, 9:30 to 11 a.m., Ackerman Library, Room 5826; Wednesday, September 10, 1:30 to 3 p.m., Science & Engineering Library, Room 090. Agenda will include an introduction of new employees, reports from the planning task groups, budget and expense control discussion, and a question-and-answer period.

New Brochures Available!

Five new Citation Guide brochures are now available for you to hand out to your customers. They include: Chicago Manual of Style, Notes - Bibliography System, Chicago Manual of Style, Author - Date System, CSE (Council of Science Editors) style, MLA (Modern Language Association), and APA (American Psychological Association) style. Please make requests to Fred Roecker in the Instruction Office at roecker.1@osu.edu and he can send the brochures on to you.

In addition, two other new brochures are now available - one with information on how the use the Libraries’ Catalog and one on Circulation practices and services. Please let us know if you would like some for handing out at your location.
