for piano solo and ten winds

The following program note accompanied a cassette tape submitted to the selection committee for the George Rieveschl Award for Distinguished Creative and Scholarly Works at the University of Cincinnati (Sapp was awarded this honor in 1986).

“Colloquies III for piano and ten winds is a series of theatrical conversations rather in the manner of a play of Samuel Beckett, extremely compressed, eliptical, concentrated but extremely lyric. There is a secondary conversation between clarinet and piano, a form of argument in [which] one must prevail and there are various types of conversations throughout – varied as to mood and intensity and intent.”
