USDA Releases 2012 Plant Hardiness Zone Map

For the first time since 1990, the USDA has released an updated version of the Plant Hardiness Zone Map (PHZM), this time incorporating GIS functionality, making it available both as an interactive, web-based tool and as static maps. The PHZM is widely used by gardeners, breeders, scientists and policy makers. Read more about this updated tool.

Latin descriptions of new species no longer required

Effective Jan. 1, 2012, new rules issued by the International Botanical Congress do away with the requirement to describe new species in Latin. Newly identified species will still have Latin binomial names. More.

OSU Catalog down on Monday, July 11

OSU’s Library Catalog and Illiad to be unavailable all day 7/11/2011 for scheduled maintenance. Users will be unable to view records, renew items, place holds or place interlibrary loan or article express requests. Circulation staff will check items out manually and provide manual receipts for returns on that day. View WorldCat or OhioLINK to search OSU holdings and retrieve call numbers.

Dr. Glen Needham OSU Extension Entomologist in the Center for Life Science Education, will update you on the most current distribution of the tick and how to differentiate it from the more common American dog tick, which can transmit Rocky Mt. spotted fever. He will also go over disease symptoms in people and dogs, offer tips on prevention and demonstrate how to properly remove an attached tick.

RefWorks 2.0 released

Check out RefWorks 2.0 new interface. Access to both RefWorks 2.0 and RefWorks Classic will continue until the end of the year. A series of tutorials will show the new features and how to incorporate RefWorks into your research. RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management program that is available to OSU faculty, staff and students.
