The OSU Libraries are pleased to offer “WorldCat Local,” Web access to the world’s richest database, listing over one billion items.
Basic features associated with WorldCat include:
- A simple search box
-
Friendly, easy-to-use results display, including “faceted browsing”
- Searches for materials at OSU, OhioLINK (Ohio libraries shared catalog; includes 86 academic libraries not including OSU), and libraries worldwide
- Displays the availability of materials
- Allows requesting of materials
- Finds articles and provides links to full-text articles online
- Result sets that bring multiple versions of a work together under one record
- Citation formatting options
See the “What’s this” link for more details about the features.
The main change you’ll see is the new search box on the library home page, now displaying search results from WorldCat Local. You can still search the OSU catalog via the OSCAR interface by clicking the link just below the box, named “Search OSU Catalog”.
Let us know what you think about WorldCat Local. Please complete the survey linked in the “what’s this” link near the search box and at the upper right hand corner of the pilot pages, called “Survey – Your voice counts!”

Lately, the OSU Library catalog has been intermittent and/or slow. Changes made to address system performance have not completely addressed the issue and additional changes may be necessary.
The following systems are affected:
*The OSU Library Catalog including electronic course reserves
*Research Databases
*CIC Virtual Catalog
*ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system
Connect to OhioLINK to search the OhioLINK catalog for OSU holdings.
Requesting items may be slow/intermittent.
Off-campus access to OhioLINK databases may be slow/intermittent.
You will be able to connect to E-journal titles at this time.
The appropriate Library and IT staff are working diligently to find and implement a solution. We all thank you for your patience during this time!

As of August 2006, 10,000 online journals are available via the Ohio State University Libraries’ online catalog. This count includes online journals that have been purchased specifically for the OSU community as well as the journals, which are available from the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center (EJC) and EBSCO. Only journals which are available in full are added to the OSCAR catalog.
Electronic journals may be housed on different servers on the Internet. The link to an electronic journal, which works for OSU IP addresses, is in the Libraries’ catalog ( http://library.ohio-state.edu.) Use the “Journal (Online)” search, to locate the online journals for which the OSU libraries have acquired access.
